“Defend the weak and the fatherless;
uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.”
This November we invite you to engage and challenge your church to make a difference in the lives of orphans, by partnering with us on Orphan Sunday.
How Orphan Sunday Began- A Poor Church in Africa Starts a Global Movement:
21 years ago a pastor in Africa called his church to care for orphans, in a community that had been ravaged by AIDS and poverty. As the service ended, the people stepped forward giving out of their own need. Some members gave vegetables from their garden, others gave clothing, and some even took off their shoes and placed them in the offering basket. On that day a movement was started called Orphan Sunday.
What is Orphan Sunday: Orphan Sunday is a day when Christians around the globe celebrate the love of the God who “defends the cause of the fatherless”, and calls us to do the same. Today churches in over 120 nations unite together with one voice on Orphan Sunday, to give hope to orphans around the world.
How Can My Church Get Involved:
We are looking to partner with 10 churches this Orphan Sunday. We’ve created Free Orphan Sunday kits that include everything you need. We invite your church to take part in a simple way to impact a child's life, through an adoption board. Simply share the video above, and have members of your congregation choose one or more numbers from your church’s board, and donate that amount. (Boards are provided in your Orphan Sunday kit.)
Once all the numbers have been taken, your church will have raised over $5,000 to help orphans be united with their forever family! It's that simple, but it’s life changing for an orphan!
We hope you will join us, and Christians around the globe,
as we unite together this Orphan Sunday!
