How Does Foster Care in the U.S. Relate to Global Orphan Care?

When we talk about orphan care, it’s easy to picture children in faraway countries—but the truth is, the mission begins right here at home. Every child without a safe, loving family—whether in another nation or across the street—reflects God’s call for His people to care.

The Connection Between Foster Care and Global Orphan Care

Globally, millions of children have lost one or both parents. In the U.S., over 400,000 children are in foster care, and more than 100,000 are waiting to be adopted. While circumstances may look different, their need is the same—a safe home, a loving family, and hope for the future.

God’s heart doesn’t draw borders. His command to care for orphans and widows (James 1:27) includes every child who feels forgotten, whether they live in Africa, Asia, or America.

The Unique Challenges in Foster Care

Children in foster care often carry deep emotional scars from neglect, abuse, or loss. Many are older or part of sibling groups who long to stay together. Others have special needs that require extra care and patience. These challenges can seem overwhelming—but love, when shared by God’s people, changes everything.

How Connected Hearts Ministry Helps

At Connected Hearts, we believe every child deserves to feel valued and seen. Through our Foster Care Support Program, we partner with churches and donors to:

  • Transform foster care rooms into warm, welcoming spaces filled with hope and dignity.

  • Provide essential items like clothing, bedding, toys, and care kits for children entering foster care—many with nothing but a trash bag for their belongings.

  • Support foster families with prayer, encouragement, and resources so they can continue to provide Christ-like care.

Every blanket, every stuffed animal, every prayer shared reminds a child that they are not forgotten—and that they are loved.

Together, We Can Bridge the Gap

Whether it’s across the ocean or across the street, orphan care and foster care share one heartbeat: restoring God’s design for family. When we serve children in need, we are living out the gospel—bringing love where there is loneliness and hope where there was despair.

At Connected Hearts, we’re grateful to walk alongside families, churches, and donors who say “yes” to that calling. Together, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus to every child waiting for belonging—both here at home and around the world.
